Projecten & spellen

On this page, you can see an overview of the projects I'm working on. The percentage shown on the right indicates their progress. The projects are sorted (to some extent) by completion percentage, but it doesn't mean that I work on them in that order. Some projects, like 'Home of Eden,' I've been working on for many years. I work on something like that when I'm waiting for something for the smaller projects.

" Vak! "

" Autocards "

Het doel van het spel? “When you are outta cards … you win the game!”

In ontwikkeling: " D20 Boule Bash "

For that reason, the game will also be well-suited for schools. It's beneficial for upper grades in elementary school and the first years of secondary education.

In ontwikkeling: Knights & Merchants

Text-based game

In ontwikkeling: Cracked Nexus

Strategy amidst fractured realms

In my early teenage years, I came into contact with Yu-Gi-Oh. The card game. I quickly became incredibly interested. The almost infinite depth due to the number of possibilities allowed my creative mind to roam freely. The possibilities and options were even greater than in chess, which is already considered infinite. Yet, there was something that immediately felt odd to me. The significant presence of luck. To execute your devised strategy, you had to draw all the cards in the right order. With about 40 cards, the chance of that is very slim. Of course, you can come up with some creative solutions when building a deck, but luck is a significant factor nonetheless.

Then I came into contact with a digital variant of the collectible card game. I believe at the time it was Hearthstone. And... here, the presence of luck, also known as RNG in games, was even greater. After that, I played the next one. And the next one. And the next one. I tried dozens of them. I enjoyed them all, but I found myself increasingly bothered by this presence of RNG. Why is it there, I wondered. It feels like playing chess with a die determining whether you do something on your turn or not. It completely undermines the strategic aspect.

That's when the idea for Home of Eden was born. A true collectible card game, with booster packs, decks, card game mechanics, attack, defense... everything that makes a collectible card game a collectible card game, but with one major difference: namely, (almost) no luck. The winner is the player who plays the best, not the player with the most luck.

This game has been in development for 7 years now and due to its grandeur and complexity, it's far from finished. Although much has been done, the real (and tedious) work still needs to be done: programming. Unfortunately, I can't do this myself. I'll have to find and pay programmers for this, which is no small feat. I plan to finance this through crowdfunding when the time comes to make it happen.

In ontwikkeling: DnD-like co op deck building game

The game does not have a name yet, hence the vague description. It is a board game inspired by games like Dungeons & Dragons and other fantasy RPGs

Players work together with the goal of advancing as far as possible in an adventure where danger can lurk around every corner. They choose a class and receive a set of cards with actions. These can be used to perform actions such as healing, aggro, and damage. Between battles, they can buy additional cards at shops and acquire artifacts. Artifacts provide strong buffs but also serve as a life-line because when players lose in combat, they lose an artifact.

In ontwikkeling: MMO RPG

This game also does not have a name yet. Long ago, I was inspired by the game Runescape. The idea of shaping your own character through everyday tasks such as chopping trees, making fire, and mining is something that is done less often than you might think. In many MMORPGs, it is possible, but it is more of a side-quest. An extra feature.

In Runescape, this was central, but in my opinion, it could have been developed better. That's when this idea was born. Namely, an MMORPG similar to Runescape in the sense of leveling skills through everyday tasks (but in a fantasy setting, so things like magic are also part of these everyday tasks), where many elements of the game are obtained through combinations of skills.

Imagine: You obtain a kind of treasure map. On this treasure map, there is a cross. Using the digging skill, you can excavate it, provided you have a digging skill of level 100, because it is a gigantic hole. Once excavated, you see the skeleton of a dragon. You can sell this for a huge amount of gold, but that’s not where it ends. If you also have a necromancy level of 250, you can bring the skeleton to life and fight it as a boss for combat XP and a reward. If you also have a very high taming level, it is even possible to turn this dragon boss into a tamed monster, and if you also have high mounting skills, you can ride it.

The world is also one with a lot of interaction both within the world and among players. The balance of the world (a war between two sides) is constantly changing due to the actions of the players. If a player does something on the 'good' side, it impacts the situation on the 'bad' side, and vice versa.

A good idea, I'd say, but one that requires a lot of work. So much, even, that I'd need a whole team for that. For this reason, I haven't done anything with this idea for over 15 years.

Additional projects

In tegendeel.

Here are some of the ideas that still need so much work they are barely worth writing about:

It's interesting to note that many of my ideas appear in the form of dreams. During the night, I dream that I am doing these things, and upon waking, I quickly write it all down. The army-based game with Go stones is an example of this, as is D20 Boule Bash.
