Vak!

Vak! is a simple game based on 'Tic-Tac-Toe'. The game revolves around getting rid of your cards as quickly as possible by placing them on the table. Meanwhile, you try to form a row of three of your symbols while avoiding a row of three belonging to another player's symbol. This is not always easy because your stack also contains the symbols of the other players.

A short impression:

The game is enjoyable for children. Additionally, it's well-suited for vacations because it comes in a small box and easily fits in a suitcase. The playtime is approximately 10 minutes, and the rules can be understood in a few minutes. If you have the game and aren't fond of rulebooks, here's a video with the gameplay explanation:

As you may have read earlier, this game is my first published game. During its development, my goal was to create the most accessible game possible. This way, I could reach as many people as possible in the hope of making them familiar with my company. The game needed to be accessible not only in terms of explanation, but also in terms of speed and ease of setup and cleanup. This was a challenge, as my preference for games lies elsewhere. Many games on the market are not particularly original but rather combinations of earlier games. Therefore, I didn't search for the 'Holy Grail' but chose a different game as a basis. Monopoly crossed my mind, but it's too popular and has been released too many times. A game that has been used much less often is 'Tic-Tac-Toe'. I had found my foundation.

Subsequently, I wondered: What kind of games appeal to the average person? After some considerations, I realized that speed often works well. After some brainstorming, the idea for 'Vak!' emerged.

Afterwards, I created a prototype of the game. Although I had started my journey as a game developer, I cannot say with certainty that the game would have made it to the market if it weren't for Taru van den Born. When he was at my house, he asked me how things were going. Given the short playtime and simple rules, I told him about 'Vak!' and we decided to play it right away. He was so enthusiastic afterwards that he offered to take care of the financing.

A collaboration was formed where I would handle the development up to and including printing, and he would take care of the financing, sales, and marketing.
This meant that I could release the game without financial risk, and I eagerly took advantage of that opportunity.

When it was finally finished, we decided to end the collaboration. During the development of the game, the people around me were so enthusiastic that I
felt confident enough to take on a portion of the costs. Additionally, the challenge of selling the games myself seemed appealing to me, so I took over half of the games and am now selling them myself.

Taru van den Born is selling the other half and is doing this from his game store, the Fantasy Realm.

The development of 'Vak!' was a challenging but rewarding journey. The learning process and collaboration with Taru van den Born have helped me at the start of my business and have shown me how passion and creativity can lead to something beautiful. This game is a proud result of dedication and collaboration, and I look forward to letting more people experience the joy of playing 'Vak!

Urban Edition: Vak!

How great would it be to have an edition of 'Vak!' for your own city? That's the idea behind the Urban Edition.
Instead of the standard icons: A fish, a camel, a turtle and a snake,
There will be icons of something that is typical for your city.

The first edition will be for the city of Kampen, where I live myself. Think of monuments such as a city gate (like the Broederpoort shown on the right or below if you're visiting the site on your mobile device), a bridge, or a tower.

If you read this and think: 'This is what my city needs as well!'
Contact me through the contact form or phone. Please note that editions can only be produced starting from 1000 units. If you're interested in fewer copies, it may not be immediately feasible, but there might already be others who have expressed interest. So, send a message. You never know.

An Urban Edition is a great way to put a city on the map. Kampen is a beautiful city with a rich history, but there's not enough tourism to sustain local businesses. With an edition dedicated to Kampen, more people will become aware of the city's existence and its beauty, making it a shame not to visit.

An edition dedicated to a city is a fantastic option for things like Christmas packages, selling at festivals, or simply in game stores.
